From World Hotels to Environment Friendly Hotels

Environmental issues are considered to be the most crucial issue of the world. World is going through the face of global warming and other environmental hazards. More and more people, NGOs, corporates and government are taking most possible preventive measures. And hospitality industry and best world hotels are at the front foot too. As a large number of hotels are mushrooming in Beijing, China and New Delhi India, ahead of the mega sports events like Olympics and Commonwealth Games respectively, organizing bodies and government are keeping a check on the environment conservation in these places.

Recently, Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee issued a memorandum of environment compliance to the hotels in Beijing. But no such guidelines have yet been issued by Commonwealth organizing committee to the Hotels in New Delhi.

Is Delhi ready to accommodate 2010 Commonwealth visitors

Delhi is getting ready for the grand sports event of 2010 Commonwealth games. The city of Delhi is expected to greet 1.8 Million foreign visitors and 3.5 Million National Visitors. The organizing committee working under Mr. Suresh Kalmadi has tighten its belts. The preparations are proceeding on many fronts like transportation, sports facilities, training facilities, lodging facilities, security, entertainment, shopping arcades and a free trip to Taj Mahal, Agra. A new mass modern games village is also coming up at a whopping cost USD 230.7 million over an area of 63.5 hectares with an approximate capacity of 8500 officials and sportsmen.

There are in all 21 participating nations.

Delhi is lacking facilities for hosting water sports and it is looking up to nearby cities like Bhopal to host water sports.

But Delhi is still running short of almost 10,500 star rooms for international visitors and 2366 star rooms to accommodate national visitors in 2010 Commonwealth Games. DDA is working hard to auction the sites for building up the hotels. DDA recently auctioned more than 20 hotels sites with 300 rooms each. Also, other locations in NCR like Noida and Gurgaon are also gearing up to accommodate this much of visitors. Presently there are 41 star hotels in Delhi. There are in all 5000 rooms coming up in different categories like star rooms, serviced apartments and mixed utility developments with around 20 hotels coming up in Gurgaon and as many in Noida too.

All this is in sync with the development in transportation, roads, modernization of Airport, Metro Rail Extensions, BRT, Flyovers, Bus Services etc. The bigger players like Leela, Oberoi, Taj Hotels, ITC are also gearing up for the schedule. Leela is coming up with a new five star hotel in Delhi and Gurgaon.

So, Delhi is not yet ready, but hopeful of being ready by the time. Its less than 1000 days to go.
